We are excited to announce a new course this fall at UBC offered through the School of Population and Public Health entitled “Social Media in Health and Medicine.” This course is one of very few like it in graduate studies in the world, and we are very happy that UBC and its faculties recognize the importance of teaching the online skills and competencies that are becoming necessary as the Internet and related technologies become ingrained in health professionals’ working lives.
Why this course?
Social media is changing how health practitioners, researchers and consumers can find, share and discuss health information. Workflow practices are changing, and the potential uses for social media apply to all health professionals, their patients, and the general public. The course will guide graduate students and practicing health professionals who wish to explore how they can leverage social media in their practice. This is a hands‐on course: students will work directly with social media and decide how new communication practices can fit into their future work.
How to register
This course is open to all graduate students at UBC. UBC students who are not in the School of Population and Public Health should contact the instructor, Dean Giustini, for permission to enroll.
The course is also open to health professionals and other interested professionals who are not UBC students. For information on enrolling as an unclassified student, please visit the UBC Students web page, or see our course information page for further instructions.
