BD Wellness Centre

Background

Bipolar Disorder (BD) is a chronic condition that severely affects mood states. People living with BD experience elevated (mania) and low (depression) moods which can translate into extremely serious medical, interpersonal and social issues. Self-management strategies for BD can be effective for managing and positively impact the course of the condition. We are working with the Collaborative Research Team to study psychosocial issues in Bipolar Disorder (CREST.BD) to create an online Wellness Centre where people with bipolar disorder and health care providers can access tailored resources to support the self-management of the condition. This project is part of CREST.BD’s overarching goal to move existing knowledge on effective self-management strategies for bipolar disorder into action

Purpose

To develop an online Wellness Centre that is tailored to the needs of the people with bipolar disorder and their health care providers, and is appropriate for use in clinical practice and routine self-management.

Overview

The Wellness Centre will provide evidence-based self-management strategies and tools for 14 bipolar-specific, quality of life domains through videos and other interactive features. The project also includes the creation of an evaluation framework that assesses the Centre’s usability and acceptability.
