You Check For Men – An Online Real Time Health Risk Assessment

Purpose

With philanthropic support of the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, this collaborative project with the Department of Urologic Sciences at UBC and The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation (CMHF) has designed and developed an online self risk assessment tool to help men identify their health risks and empower them through specific education and support based on those individual risks, to optimize their health.

You Check for Men – 10 minutes to see your next 10 years

Overview

The survey is designed to synthesize the key existing risk assessments for various specific conditions into one overall survey which is customized according to age, cultural background, family history, lifestyle and other health determinants. The first target population to complete the surveys is adult males, to be followed later by adult females.

Once a participant has completed survey information, a health risk assessment is generated for them, which visually represents risk for chronic diseases or serious health conditions prevalent to a gender and refers to the source literature upon which the assessment is based, along with suggestions for managing the risk effectively.  In a future iteration of the assessment platform, participants who register and return to the survey will see their previous assessments and be able to monitor any effects of lifestyle changes over time on their estimated risk.

Status

You Check For Men was launched on June 3, 2014 as a pilot web-based tool to enable men to self-assess their risk for 7 diseases or chronic conditions prevalent among males. The pilot launch of You Check For Men is part of the national launch of a new Canadian men’s health foundation, called the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation and a campaign designed to inspire men to better health, called Don’t Change Much.

eHealth Strategy office technical design, development and implementation of You Check For Men has been led by Dr. Bradut Dima.

In early 2015, the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation has rolled out a brand-new look and feel for You Check.
