On June 6th 2011, the eHealth Strategy Office hosted the inaugural event of it’s Global Health Summit Series. Held at UBC Health Care Diamond Centrer, a delegation of 17 guests from China consisting of senior hospital executives, administrators and provincial government officials, attended an Health Academic Forum focused on hospital management issues, hospital infection control and eHealth. The forum was an opportunity for China and Canada to discuss and share health strategies in these areas.
The morning began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Ross MacGillivray (Vice Dean, UBC Faculty of Medicine) followed by Consul Long Shen from the People’s Republic of China Consulate General. After a debrief from Dr. Michael Hsieh (Executive Director, Canadian Allied Development Services International (CADSI)), the two knowledge sharing sessions commenced. Dr. Kendall Ho (Director, eHealth Strategy Office) gave a lecture discussing the role of eHealth in hospital and health care system reform. The second knowledge sharing session was delivered by Dr. Elizabeth Bryce (Director of Infection Control, Vancouver Coastal Health) focused around hospital infections and the best practices for controlling them.
The half-day forum was concluded with a Q&A/Discussion that allowed for the China delegation to share their insights on the two presentations made. Stay tuned as we will be posting the videos for each of our speakers as well as the forum discussion.
