Technology could play a key role in helping preserve the Ktunaxa language

“Living the Language – Canada: The Ktunaxa” is a 20-minute documentary about the Ktunaxa Nation. The video showcases how the Ktunaxa are documenting and preserving their traditional language, a language isolate that only a few Elders speak fluently.

The eHealth Strategy Office partnered with the Ktunaxa Nation to develop Community Learning Centres (CLCs) from 2006-2009. These CLCs are helping provide community members with space and technology that can facilitate their efforts towards language preservation. The CLCs are mentioned specifically around 4:45, and are showcased throughout the documentary.

The documentary is fascinating, and it is great to see the Ktunaxa Nation getting recognition for their language preservation efforts. We are proud to have been a part of an initiative that could help contribute to the success of this preservation.
