eHITS 2014 a Great Success!

eHITS 2014On May 9th, the UBC eHealth Strategy Office and UBC Division of Continuing Professional Development hosted BC’s 1st Annual eHealth and Innovative Technology Showcase (eHITS) at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The day was opened by Health Minister Terry Lake and featured a number of key sessions around the use of technology in healthcare:

  • Dr. Darryl Samoil led a session on Electronic Health Records & Clinical Decision Support
  • Dr. Kendall Ho hosted a panel discussing Supporting the Rise of the e-Patient in B.C.
  • Maureen Charlebois led a discussion of Clinical Leadership – Interprofessional Collaboration enabled by eHealth
  • Bill Dow led the session on Education & Clinical Practice

In addition to these plenaries, the conference featured a short presentation session where over 40 clinicians shared their current eHealth projects through talks as well as posters. The Showcase also saw a number of companies who are investing in eHealth in B.C. demonstrate their latest technologies.

Many thanks to our speakers, panelists, project presenters and to the 347 participants who registered for the conference. It was great to see senior leaders in the B.C. Ministry of Health, Health Authorities and Canada Health Infoway taking an active role in the discussion. Also, thanks to our UBC student volunteers, led by Matt Toom, who contributed their talents and efforts in this conference.

We’re thrilled to see people from across the healthcare sector getting excited about and involved in eHealth, and we are proud to see eHITS contribute to that discussion, both in person and online. The Showcase had over 950 tweets tagged with #eHITS2014 in the two days around the event. Those tweets were contributed by 141 participants and resulted in over half a million impressions.
