We are proud to announce the publication of a new book, edited by members of the eHealth Strategy Office and Richard Scott from the University of Calgary, entitled Technology Enabled Knowledge Translation for eHealth.
Technology-Enabled Knowledge Translation for eHealth surveys in depth the current status of major TEKT projects and its potential to contribute to future widespread health care refinements. In applications as varied as bioinformatics, youth e-mentoring programs, and electronic communities of practice, TEKT is shown as evolving toward larger humanitarian goals, addressing environmental concerns, and—in keeping with one of the earliest premises of the Internet—answering the salient question, “How global is e-health?”
The book contains case reports from the eHealth Strategy Office’s Technology Enabled Knowledge Translation Investigative Centre (TEKTIC) initiative, which funded over 30 eHealth research projects throughout 2006-2009. It also contains chapters on recent trends in eHealth and knowledge translation, including mobile health (mHealth), electronic communities of practice, social media, and community engagement.
The book is geared toward researchers and policy makers interested in implementing a wide variety of technological interventions in health care, in sectors from medical education to global health. Theoretical chapters deal with the underpinnings of technology and its applications to health and medicine, while the practical reports share knowledge and lessons learned from various TEKTIC initiatives.
Special thanks are due to the editors and to all the authors that contributed their experiences and research findings. We hope that this is a useful resource, and that the chapters can be applied toward advancing research and evaluation programs in eHealth across the globe.
