Access, quality, and affordability of health care to citizens, not only for patients living in urban but particularly for those living in rural and remote areas, have been increasingly brought into focus over the last decade by governments, health organizations, health professionals, and health consumers themselves in all countries. Canada and China are no exceptions, as reflected by recent major health reports by leading figures in Canada and the health reform framework currently being animated in China.

In this edition of China Health Human Resources Magazine (PDF, 6th edition, 2012), our director Dr. Kendall Ho published an article entitled “Three Key Trends in e-Health that cannot be missed in Health Reform.” In it, he explores three rapidly evolving and highly important trends in e-health that are quintessential for health policy makers and health organization leaders to watch and consider how to incorporate into their health service delivery systems. The three trends outlined in the article are:

  1. Decision support systems for health professionals
  2. Telemedicine and remote monitoring
  3. Mobile health and social media
